Please welcome Sgt. Pepper to the mod team. Unfortunately down4rce had to step down, and he made a fantastic suggestion in Sgt. Pepper as his replacement, so I made it happen.
I'm sure he will do well to help keep the community on track...
I will be moving the forum to the new server this afternoon (4pm Eastern-ish), most likely during the football game, as I like to multi-task...
The Wiki, and technical gallery (service manuals) will be up at the same time, the member gallery is taking longer to copy (it's about 30GB of data, going over a relatively slow connection).
I will start a new bug thread at that time, but I don't foresee any problems, the test site works perfectly for me.
Well, I am on vacation now, so it's time to mess up the site! I upgraded the forum software to the latest version, let me know if there are any problems in the forum bug report thread here.
I know, the skin is gone, I'll be working on that...
Well, it's taking FAR longer than I had hoped to move the site over, I guess 50+GB of data takes a while to upload.... So the cutover is still going to happen, but it's probably a at least a week out at this point, maybe more. At least I found a reliable FTP client, the first 6 or or so that I tried failed miserably.
I have just purchased a web hosting package, so I will be moving the site in the very near future. What does this mean? Well, for one, once the domain switch goes through, the site will not be available until I can move everything over, so there will be some intermittent downtime in the short term. Longer term, it will mean better reliability, since you won't have to rely on my home DSL line staying up. It will also save me a lot of money, since I can now switch from the high priced ISP I am currently using to something much cheaper.
This message is just a notice that there will be intermittent periods of downtime, in the near future. I don't know when it will start, or how long it will last, just know that it WILL be back at some point.
I will also be upgrading the forum software, gallery software, and the wiki software at the same time, so there will likely be some growing pains there as well.
We had a big ice storm last night and lost power at around 5:30am. I shut everything down before the UPS's died, and brought all the servers up around 10am, but failed to notice that the database server didn't start because I mis-configured it. As of 12:30 EST it's all back up and running.
I may be taking the server down sometime during the day to do a hardware upgrade, it all depends on what time I have available. It should only be for an hour or two.
