From what she told me through email was that her father swapped the 91 d series into the car. He knew what he was talking about and has been a mechanic for the better of 45 years. She also clamied to me it was fuel injected and a SI model...I really wanted this car.

oh, so there is a 91 motor in it already? im confused. i never saw the original craigslist add. i thought you meant it came with a low mileage engine that you wanted to put in there...

Previous owner: "It has a 91 motor in it"
I can tell that is has a DIFFERENT motor in it by the writing on the valve cover of "38k" and "RAN"
But I can also tell that the motor is NOT a '91

I am unsure what year the motor is.

Any one want to show me what the accelerator pump is?

she probably means the motor was replaced in 91 or something, either that or someone just told her it was a 91 motor.

well obviously if its got a carb it wasnt an SI, so you probably didnt miss out there

the accelerator pump is on the driver side rear of the carb. as you actuate the linkage, you should see it move and squirt a stream of gas into the carb throat

Ok, so I just ordered the parts from the dealer
16010-PE0-702 GASKET SET, CARBURETOR
16021-PE0-702 DIAPHRAGM SET, PUMP
16093-PE1-722 GASKET

in most of honda's pictures it is #'s: 1, 11, and 29
I hope those are correct. They should arrive on Wednesday.

The parts guy also said that the Plastic base plates are notorious for cracking and causing leaks on these older hondas. But they are also $90.

I will let you guys know how the rebuild goes and if I can get it started.

Ok, so me and my stepdad got it to run for a while off of carb cleaner, and we tried to locate a vacuum leak, but it appears that there are not any. I did notice a small hairline crack on the outer part of the plastic base plate.
I sprayed the crack and it didn't affect the idle, and the carb cleaner was NOT getting sucked up this crack.

But on a bad note, It is smoking from the header area. It is hard to locate the origin of the smoke though. As the motor sits so close to the radiator support. I might just go to a junk yard and get a good motor If thats what it takes to get it running again.

it is very normal for an old valve cover gasket to leak oil which will drip onto the exhaust manifold. this may simply be your problem.

dont give up on that engine so quick. if it runs at all there is a decent chance its simply a carb problem.

i live right up the road from you just north of Hickory. I may be able to come down there at some point. you can tow the car here if you want and i'll be more than glad to help you. or if you want to come get me and bring me down there. we'll get er dun!

i'll PM you my number.

Just talked to Kaymo, Thanks on getting me up to par on these old ass cars. lol

I just sprayed the base plate for leaks, and guess what, there is a pretty major idle increase when sprayed on the driver side, I can also see hairline cracks in the plate.
***Does anyone in the area have one?
If not I will go to honda and buy one.

Also I am going to devac it soon.

And I need a better choke, this one opens up TOOOOOO quickly
***When coming to a stop, the car just dies, but not every time. It is random.
***Every time I have made a right turn onto my street it dies.

The smoking has quit though, I figure that it was just burning off old shit that was on the header.
